Six Awesome Apps (Android)

Here are six of my favourite apps that I use on an almost daily basis. They also all have over 4.0 review scores. I’ve done the research and hope that you might find them helpful and useful too? If so, or you have some others you would recommend, please add a comment at the end of this page (thank you!)

Bible in One Year (BIOY)

With over 1 million users worldwide, Bible in One Year is the leading daily bible reading app. Nicky Gumbel, vicar of HTB church in London and pioneer of Alpha, provides amazing audio and written commentary to walk you through each day’s Bible readings.

The bible readings can be listened too as well as read. David Suchet reads the Scriptures (British actor famous for Poirot series and other BBC programs).

I have been using this app for over 3 years now and I always read it whilst having my breakfast – a great way to start the day!

Evernote

*GET ORGANIZED*
Evernote gives you the tools you need to keep your work effortlessly organized:
• Write, collect and capture ideas as searchable notes, notebooks, checklists and to-dos
• Take notes in a variety of formats, including: text, sketches, photos, audio, video, PDFs, web clippings and more
• Use camera capture to easily scan and comment on pieces of paper, including printed documents, business cards, handwriting, sketches
• Attach Microsoft Office docs, PDFs and photos
• Keep receipts, bills and invoices organized
• Use Evernote as a digital notepad and easy-to-format word processor for every thought as it comes

The beauty of this app is you can sync effortlessly between devices. I have this on my smartphone and laptop.

It’s really great for taking notes at church. Although you do run the risk of people thinking you aren’t paying attention and are checking out your social media!!! (I always try to say a quick comment to the minister, like, “great sermon and I took loads of notes!” as I’m walking out to prevent any misunderstandings!)

I often take pictures of the screen if person uses PowerPoint. This also saves a lot of frantic writing! Pictures are easy to add to your notes. Here is an example I did a couple of weeks ago:

Echo Prayer

Even with the constant pressures of daily life, prayer is as vital as it has ever been to stay centred and connected to God. Echo helps integrate prayer into your daily routine, allowing you to stay in conversation with God in the midst of your busy life.

I’ve just started to use this app. I almost didn’t keep as, at present, you cannot sync it to a Windows device. However, they are working on this and so I’m going to be patient as it’s probably worth waiting for.

Writing down prayers is a great way to really solidify what you want to say to the Lord and also you can add some relevant Scriptures too.

If you need to be persistent with a particular prayer request, this app enables you to put them in your diary to remind you!

This is great for keeping track of your prayers and there is a way to mark them off as “answered” too.

Heidelberg Catechism

The Heidelberg Catechism was named after the city in which it was compiled and was published in Heidelberg Germany in 1563. The Heidelberg Catechism was quickly embraced by the Reformed Protestants and has been an enduring means by which thousands have been taught biblical doctrines of the Christian faith.

This application can assist you in learning the catechism and Protestant Reformed Christian doctrine. You can track your progress as you learn, study, and memorise the catechism questions and answers.

Journal – Diary

“Embark on the journey of self-improvement towards better qualities of love, life and health. Record your daily events, secret, gratitude, and relive those moments in Journey. Trusted by millions of users, Journey is your perfect journaling companion that keeps your private memories for a lifetime.”

I find it very hard to discipline myself to keep a daily journal. But this app is very helpful and easy to use.

The best FREE way to sync it via a Windows device is to add it to Google Chrome Apps (otherwise it will cost you about £14 to purchase from the Windows App Store)

Google Chrome

Browse fast on your Android phone and tablet with the Google Chrome browser that you love on desktop. Pick up from where you left on your other devices with tab sync, search by voice and save up to 50% of data usage while browsing.

Google Chrome is my number one choice for accessing the Internet.

I love the way all my saved bookmarked sites are also automatically saved on all my devices like smartphone and tablet. All my diary entries also sync up aromatically with all my devices too.

As I have a Google Account as well, I can access my Chrome, YouTube account and lots of other things too via any other computer or tablet. It’s great!
