After writing a Blog, for a number of years, via Google’s Blogger, I decided that it was time to move on and start my own Site and here it is!

The name ‘Faithworks’ sprung to mind as I was mediating on what to call my new Blog. This also seemed to go along nicely with the thoughts I was having at the same time from the well known verse in James, where it says: “faith without works is dead”. I love the way the NIV translation puts it like this: “In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” (James 2:17).

It appears to me that ever since the Reformation, a lot of emphasis, and rightly so, has been put on that fact that we are saved by grace through faith and not by works (Ephesians 2:8). However, I do really feel that the pendulum has tipped too far and the works element of faith has been largely overlooked. I very quickly need to clarify that of course I do believe that it is impossible to be saved through works (as the Bible clearly states). We cannot gain salvation through works pertaining to the observance of the Law. No, the works that I believe have been overlooked are the ones that should accompany faith. For example, John the Baptist looked for evidence that a person had in fact truly repented by looking for fruits of repentance (Matthew 3:8). Similarly, the apostle Paul preached that people should repent, turn in God and produce deeds worthy of their repentance (Acts 26:20). Also, we will be judged not just on what we believe but what we do and say (Matthew 25:31-46, Matthew 12:36). So, this is how the name of this site came about and also reveals the particular slant that the content may veer towards.

Not only do I enjoy Blogging, but I’m also finding it very useful in clarifying, in my own mind, what I actually believe; my own personal statement of beliefs, if you like. I would therefore appreciate any comments, especially if you feel that I’ve missed something or just plainly incorrect (but please be gentle!).

As I have declared in my Site’s description, this Blog is Bible based with media content that I have found helpful and I do really hope you will find it inspirational and useful too.
