Creationism & Young Earth – Utmost Importance!

Ever since the “Age of Enlightenment” the church and the Bible has come under such a fierce and fraudulent attack from what comes under the umbrella name of “Evolution” giving a fictitious and false account of creation. It has been forcibly forced into the education system and is arguably one of the foremost reasons why people have been put off from Christianity but not only that, it has weakened the faith and testimony of many Bible believing Christians.

In this post, I want to first outline, from Scripture why Evolution is totally incompatible with Scripture and the primary danger. The devil has been quite cunning as he has tried to hide the facts regarding to the origin of sin, and therefore disease, decay and death but also the remedy which is found in the finished work of Christ on the cross.

Then, I will share a few examples of evidence that we have for a young earth and how it lines up with the biblical account. I will share my thoughts on one difficult question and then at the end will share some powerful and helpful resources.

If you are happy to believe in the “billions of years” it has taken to get where we are here, now today, and you say you are a Christian, you must ask this fundamental question:

Where does disease, death and decay start along that “billions of years” timescale?

If you say it was before Adam & Eve, which Evolutionists would say it did (Dinosaurs did not inhabit the earth at the same time as man etc.), then, right there, it goes against what the Bible says.

In Genesis 3:17-19, it clearly states that the origin of all disease, death and decay starts here and is a result of the original sin. This is backed up in the New Testament in Romans 8:20-22.

The Bible also says, “the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23).

But, here’s the Good News! Just as death came through one man (1^st Adam) so provision has been made for life, justification and righteous through one man also; Jesus Christ (2^nd Adam) (see Romans 5:12-21).

Can you see how this essential core and fundamental doctrine of Christianity falls into question IF you believe in Evolution.

Secondly, the Bible says that God created things according to theirs “kinds” and don’t we see this clearly today! Evolutionists would say, for example that we came from apes and their whole argument states that from a single cell, many things “evolved” into all that we see today. And again, in this evolutionary idea, things would have had to die and chang with new life But this is what the Bible says:

Genesis 1:11: Plants and fruit trees yielding seed “after his kind”.

Genesis 1:21: Great sea monsters and every winged bird “after its kind”.

Genesis 1:24: Living creatures, cattle, and creeping things brought forth “after their kind”.

Genesis 1:25: God making the wild animals, livestock, and ground creatures “according to their kinds”

Okay, I’ve probably just scratched the surface of the incompatibility of Evolution thinking with the Bible view of Creation but I think just this should be enough to ring alarm bells for any would be inquirer.

So, what evidence do we have, from the Biblical account in what we see in this world today? By the way, we must not lose sight of the fact that Evolutionists have no eye witness account of how creation or how, as they would say, it all started. I think we Christians have a big advantage, because we believe in God who has provided a written account, in the Bible, that when it comes under careful scrutiny absolutely ties up what we see through observable science. We must not also forget that many of the major scientists over that last few hundred years were devout Christians; Newton, Farraday, Maxwell, Eddington and Pascal to name but a few!

The single biggest event in the Bible accounts for so much of what scientists can see in this world today and that is: The Worldwide Flood as recorded in the book of Genesis but also crucial stages of the flood in Psalm 104:6-9. You will also be probably aware of the fact that the mention of this flood is found in the records of many other religions as well.

So, when we examine the fossil records and the various layers we observe in rock formations we see exactly what you would expect from a flood: “billions of dead things, buried in rock layers laid down by water all over the earth.” Now, I’m not a scientist and I will leave a lot of the explanations to them and you will see some of this from the links below. But this is my own take from what I have read and heard.

The World Wide Flood caused such devastation and so quickly, and it didn’t take but just a few hundred years not millions. We can see from recent events like the eruption of Mount St. Helens eruption that took place in 1980 that rock formations don’t take long to form.

Did you know that tree trunks have been discovered that appear through various layers that evolutionists state took millions of years between layers. The Creationist view that it all happened quickly is evidenced by these finds. Also, the fossil records are not in some sort of order in the various rock layers as they suggest

Here’s an interesting fact to consider. If you examine all the sedimentary deposits around every major river in the world today, there is only enough that accounts for approximately 4,500 years at each river mouth. Which fits perfectly in the time frame shown in the Bible about Noah’s Flood.

Another totally amazing fact. We know that there are major fault lines all over the earth and actually the Creationists and Evolutionists both agree in the Pangea (one big land mass at one time). However, Creationists say that these huge cracks happened suddenly and the fault lines can be traced back to a source, and guess where that is? It is Caesarea Philippi. Now, I don’t believe that this is a ‘coincidence’ but this was at the spot where Jesus asked two huge questions to His disciples: “Who do people say I am? And Who do you say I am” (Matthew 16:13-15). For us as Christians it is not a coincidence given that Jesus had actually been there at the time of creation itself.

The Ice Age (only one according to Creationists) took place after the flood. A major contributing factor was the huge amount of volcanic eruptions at the time. This released ash into the atmosphere which blocked out the sunlight and ushered in the ice age and formation of the polar icecaps. By the way did you know that we see evidence of how this could have happened in 1816 when in the whole of Europe, there was a “perpetual winter” and snow for a whole year because of the eruption of Mount Tambora in April of 1815.

The Ice Age did not cover the whole of the earth and probably took place when Abraham was a young boy and at the same time the book of Job was written. Because it didn’t cover the whole earth, people were able to walk across what were to become separated continents once the ice melted and the Ice Age ceased.

This has turned out to be a long post. However, I want to briefly talk about one area that I at first found baffling. How about this statement: If the universe is so young, how comes we see stars and other universes that are so far away given the speed of light? Huge question, but when you dig deeper into it, not even science can agree on the what the speed of light is. Einstein stated that the speed of light is constant but this is very much up for debate. Now this where I am way out of my depth but when I looked into it. Apparently, the speed of light is measured between two places. Therein lies a big problem, apparently as you have to perfectly synchronize two clocks which is not as easy as it seems. Some people think the speed of light could be faster in one direction. But here’s the deal breaker. Nobody, not even Creationists can say with certainty how light travels beyond our solar system. We do know, apparently that gravity does affect it. We know for certain that gravity can actually bend light – which is how we can see beyond and behind another solar system. The short of this is that no scientist can prove how long light has taken to travel from the observable universe that we see in our night time sky today.

My hope in writing this is to ignite an interest in Creationism and thereby strengthen faith that if we can be confident in what the Bible says about creation, anthropology, geology, biology and astronomy then we can be exceedingly confident in its spiritual and moral teaching as well.

For example, Dr Grady McMurtry was a staunch Evolutiionist until at the age of 27, he took six months to study and arrive at the fact the Jesus is who He says He is. He became a Christian as a result of this. However, immediately he saw that his view on Evolution was totally at odds with what the Bible says. So, he took 16 months to check it out but came to the conclusion that the Bible is accurate and is now a staunch Creationist.
