The Death of “Great” Britain?
I sometimes think that we look back at what we call the Old Testament and suppose that somehow in this respect it does not apply to us anymore as “New Testament” believers. What happened to “God’s Chosen People”, the Israelites was just there as a history lesson. Well, here’s a news flash! “These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the culmination of the ages has come.”
You say, well, what is the warning for us?
DISOBEDIENCE & TURNING AWAY FROM GOD = JUDGEMENT
I’m going to build a case as to how the times, I now believe we are living in, have some striking and relevant similarities to what we read in the book of Habakkuk and cross reference it to the book of Romans and then conclude with two possible outcomes.
I think it is beyond presumption and indeed utter foolishness to think that we Christians are somehow exempt from the judgements that came upon the Israelites as documented in the Old Testament. I hope, like me, you have read the whole bible right through? You will see how painful a journey it has been. Time and time again, God warned His people of the consequences of turning away from Him and His Statutes. God had to rescue them over and over again through various ways and different types of leadership. The sad fact is, we have not learned from history at all!
So, let’s consider the book of Habakkuk. In his day, Judah, the southern kingdom, just like Israel in the northern kingdom had ignored warning after warning through prophets that their turning away from God would have serious consequences for them. The northern kingdom fell first to the Assyrians and then eventually both kingdoms fell to the Babylonians, who by the way were a very savage and ruthless people. In chapter one, Habakkuk just cannot believe that God is allowing such a barbaric and savage people to invade and destroy His people. It just didn’t seem just or right and fair of God to him.
Now, I just want to flip forward a few thousand years to 2026 and what’s going on the world and in particular in the United Kingdom but this is also heading to the USA. Instead of an emerging Babylonian empire we have something called Islamists who just like the Babylonians are bent on conquering the world and subduing it to Islam and in particular to Sharia Law. You ask any service man who fought in Iraq or Afghanistan what that looks like? I’ve heard the testimonies and thanks to uncensored videos on Telegram I’ve actually seen with my own eyes what actually happened on and just after that infamous attack by Hamas on Israel on 7th October 2023. These people are totally depraved and barbaric and it makes me absolutely shudder that thanks to a catastrophic immigration policy, these people have literally invaded our country on a massive scale. When history books are written, historians and readers will be flabbergasted by how such an invasion has taken place. It’s the ultimate ‘Trojan Horse’.
So many people have been hoodwinked into some absolute false belief that this mass invasion is actually some very poor and helpless people who really need our help.
I’m reminded of a film called Independence Day that I saw many years ago. In the film, a group of alien enthusiasts and partygoers gather on the rooftop of a Los Angeles skyscraper (the First Interstate World Centre). They hold up welcome signs, dance, and celebrate to enthusiastically “meet” the extraterrestrials parked directly above them. Instead of a peaceful greeting, the massive alien mothership opens its primary weapon hatch and fires a devastating energy beam straight down, instantly killing everyone on the roof and incinerating the city.
Let there be no mistake. This mass invasion of illegal immigrants that have been allowed to come into the United Kingdom (and Europe) are an invasion force who want to take over and subdue us – and they are not dissimilar to the Babylonians in their absolute savagery.
But, I need to stop, take a deep breath and explain first how we got to this stage. You see Habakkuk knew the reason in his day, He knew very well that Judah had ignored all God’s warnings. They had turned away from God and all His commandments. He just found it very difficult to accept God’s judgement was upon them in the form of the Babylonians.
So, where are we in Great Britain in 2026. Haven’t we, as a nation, turned so far away from God? What was it that made Britain great? Didn’t we used to have Godly leaders? Look how our institutions have fallen! The BBC was founded on Christian principles and the first chairman of the BBC was a Christian. We’ve taken prayer out of schools and on and on it goes. Right at the moment there is a huge scandal just emerging about rape gangs on a massive and organised scale that have seemingly been allowed to go on where young girls have been groomed and raped on a huge scale. There is so much that is anti-God that’s going on in this day in this nation that we could site page after page. I just also need, at this point, to interject that, and it’s already been said by many, what’s happening here in the UK is heading to the USA. America was founded on Biblical principles. Christianity was at the very core of the Constitution and many of the initial presidents were very godly and God fearing men. Look at what has happened there now! And might I say, I have been following, quite carefully, how the “Iran War” has been going and to be frank and honest, it doesn’t look good at all. Short of engaging in an all-out nuclear war, I think Trump has lost and miraculously, I think, the Islamic Republic of Iran has withstood the might of America and might come out as the winner, which is catastrophic not only for the real Iranian people (Persians) but the whole civilised world!
In chapter two of Habakkuk, he gets a huge reality check and a huge revelation that sent shockwaves over many thousand of years since. It is this:
“THE RIGHTEOUS SHALL LIVE BY FAITH”
This revelation given to Habakkuk is quoted three times in the New Testament (Romans, Galatians and Hebrews).
I would like us to see the context in which Paul writes, “the righteous will live by faith” in the book of Romans:
Romans 1:17–32
God’s Wrath on Unrighteousness
17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”6
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. 19 For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. 21 For although they knew God, they did not honour him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.
24 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonouring of their bodies among themselves, 25 because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, vwho is blessed forever! Amen.
26 For this reason God gave them up to dishonourable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; 27 and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.
28 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to aa debased mind to do what ought not to be done. 29 They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31 foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32 Though they know God’s righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.
This is why God’s judgement is at our door and I think there are two ways I see this playing out:
Either we as a nation, repent and there is a revival on a big scale, in which case we could get a reprieve. In a way we could be like Nineveh and be spared (although note well, the people of Nineveh were part of the Asyrian empire. Their repentance didn’t last long and guess what, it was the Babylonians (& others) who wiped them out as judgment!) There is also of course a threat of a revolution brewing. Historians have held that religious Revivalism in the late eighteenth century distracted the minds of the English from thoughts of Revolution and this could happen again if revival breaks out.
Or, God’s judgement will ultimately come and “Great” Britain, GB, will simply become IRB, Islamic Republic of Britain.
We God’s people are called to “live by faith” and even though there could be complete and utter carnage if Islamists take over, we can echo Habakkuk’s great prayerful song:
“Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Saviour.” Amen!
