OUR BELIEFS: SALVATION

Salvation (Romans 1:16) means deliverance from imminent destruction or danger; to be rescued from ruin. We have already seen that mankind is under the wrath of God. This is what we need to be saved from; from God’s anger and from the punishment that will come to all sinners.

God wants to rescue us from eternal destruction and to restore us back to what we were originally intended to be.

Biblical salvation is not just a one-off event; salvation involves the past, present and future. Salvation involves being saved from:

• the Penalty of sin (Romans 5:9; Romans 6:23)
• the Power of sin (Romans 8:1-2)
• the Presence of sin (Romans 8:16-18)

Salvation is only possible through one person and that is Jesus Christ (Acts 4:12, Matthew 1:21; John 14:6).

Salvation is completely by God’s grace, based on the blood that Jesus shed in order to redeem us and is not based on any good works that we can try and do to save ourselves. (John 1:12; Ephesians 1:7; Ephesians 2:8-10; 1 Peter 1:18-19).

Salvation is by God’s grace to all that He calls; those He has chosen before the foundation of the world (Election). (Romans 8:28-30; Ephesians 1:4-11; 2 Thessalonians 2:13; 2 Timothy 2:10; 1 Peter 1:1-2)

These are the basic elements involved in salvation:

Repentance
Belief (faith) in the Gospel
Regeneration
Justification
Sanctification
Redemption
Adoption
Glorification
